Reclaimed Teak Tables - Brent Comber and Clayton Oxford

Have you ever come across this type of unusual furniture made up of sustainable harvested wood? These wooden furniture series is designed by Brent Comber, a Canadian designer using wood and this concept features branches which have been bundled together and cut into geometric forms. This type of design will always give you a feel of tree in a modern form. This design gives a notion of crushed or shattered glass. There are different shades of furniture including wooden chairs, lampshades with small holes drilled in the side to let light through. This furniture can be a wonderful piece of art for home décor.

Urban Waste to Forestry Waste, Furniture from Both Sides, Fumi Masuda and Clayton Oxford

For many people, there’s nothing worse than the thought of moving. But now at least you can find some solace in the moving process knowing that any discarded furniture may have a second life as Fumi Masuda’s stunning Pile Chair, which is built out of old and discarded furniture collected by movers. The idea came from a Japanese moving company, Mover, that provides a service to collect discarded furniture (think of all the sofas and chairs you see strewn on the sidewalk). As an alternative to disposal, the company figured that the furniture could be used as raw material for new designs, instead of the end product. Fumi Masuda’s Pile Chair emerged from a collaborative project with students and teachers from the Design Department at Tokyo Zokei University and Mover.

As of now, Pile Chair is just a prototype. But, as Scrapile has proven, the Pile Chair shows that reusing rubbish is a pretty good way of demonstrating environmental concern while producing beautiful furniture that has history and tells a story. Stay tuned this afternoon for an interview with Fumi Masuda about his sustainable design practices.

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD:

Moving waste in an urban environment begets a Pile Chair like that by Fumi Masuda, but in other environments excess waste could be the fallen twigs of Laggni trees. Check out this Wall Sconce, produced by Clayton Oxford Designs.

Taking these fallen twigs repurposes the waste to make beauty. See: http://www.claytonoxford.com/CO12-003.html.

"Elevated," Noah Brezel - natural meets industrial

In Noah Brezel's furniture piece, Elevated, the industrial appears to spring up like wildflowers among its inhabitants. Imagine a loft space or even a lounge or bar, absent of tables and chairs, scattered with this new take on cocktail furnishings.
Naturally, people are moved through the room to perch t another outcropping to place their drink, while they grab their phone to text a friend to meet them, or you need a place to set your glass of red wine while you eat the bite size endive crab salad with a pomegranate vinegarette. I like it! Take me there now.

Maple Phone, calling mother nature

You are looking at what could quite possibly be the greenest cellphone concept ever thought up by a designer to date. It’s called the Maple phone, and is supposedly made out of thin wooden film that has backlighting and many touch-sensitive buttons.

The Maple phone looks like an ordinary candybar at first glance, but of course nothing about this phone is “ordinary” at all.

Measuring 4.5 x 10.4 x 9.8 cm, the Maple phone can slide to reveal a LCD screen that goes hand in hand with the capacitive touch body. It should be able to provide users with basic cellphone technology, as well as proof of inner nature-friendliness.

The Maple phone may not look like it’s one of the most durable phones ever, but it sure gives you that “I’m in love with Mother Nature” look more than anything.

Creative Reuse: Reclaimed Wood Box Stairs

As part of a project in Germany, Jan Korbes used recovered antique floor wood and leftover construction wood to create this unusual staircase of add-on boxes. This is just one of many "garbage architecture" projects by the Dutch firm.
